Short summary
This study assesses the potential and socioeconomic dynamics of Oyan dam, Nigeria. The data used include discharge records, Landsat imageries and socioeconomic data sets. The results revealed that the water level and storage had reduction of about 2 % as well as non-stationary pattern of water abstraction and production. Only cultivated land-use accrued an increased between 1984 and 2016. Commercial water supply from the dam varied significantly while irrigation scheme is grossly under-utilized.
